RWI
The Rayalaseema Water Initiative (RWI) is a project that aims to enhance crop security and develop resilience for small and marginal farmers, through the adoption of sustainable water management and natural farming practices. Within 4 years, the network of partners consisting of eight Organizations (APMAS, CSA, FES, WASSAN, JANAJAGRUTHI, RIDS, REDS and TC) aim to extend support to 32,400 farmers in 231 habitations in 69 Gram Panchayats in Annamayya, Ananthapuramu and Sri Satya Sai Districts of Andhra Pradesh.
Situated in an ecologically vulnerable and drought prone area, many small and marginal farmers are dependent on rainfed agriculture and agrochemicals. In this context, the project plays an essential role in improving water conservation by aiding the construction of efficient water holding infrastructure, renovation of existing traditional water bodies and borewells, supporting farmers to adopt natural farming and shift from monocropping to climate resilient millet crops, improving drinking water condition for livestock, and encouraging community management of water resources.
The Collective is working towards establishing a Management Information System (MIS) for data management, water mapping and measuring techniques. We also aid in awarding Organic Certification to the produce cultivated using Natural Farming techniques.
